Knowing river, body notes
Installation, live encaustic drawing performance (2018)
Knowing River, Body Notes is a collaborative, interdisciplinary performance involving live sound, movement, and drawing. Lo Bil generated intuitive, movement-based scores through the manipulation of objects, while Nava responded by translating her gestures into inscriptive mark-making, both on the wall and on an encaustic surface. At the culmination of the performance, I rubbed the surface with blue pigment, revealing the layered traces of action. Throughout the event, musicians Ronley Teper, David Jager, and Tim Postage improvised in response to the unfolding gestures, weaving guitar, piano, and vocals into the shared sensorial field. The performance took place June 21st, 2016 at Sheldon Rose Gallery, Toronto.
