Bluishness

Bluishness is a series of works on paper that explores blue as both object and subject, through a gestural application of watercolour ranging from saturated, near-opaque pooling to diluted, near-transparent wash. In the book Ex-Cinema, the film theorist Akira Mizuta Lippit writes on blue as a colour that resists settling into a single image — neither picture nor its absence, but always shifting between the two. The text became a choreographic literary source, translated into gesture: the accumulation and variation of Lippit's language rendered as accumulation and variation of the brush.
