Variations on Broken Lines (2023)

Immersive installation: moving image sculpture, single-channel video animation projection, holographic film, rug, and an augmented reality interactive audiovisual environment experienced through an iPad and headset

Variations on Broken Lines explore notions of in-betweenness, the experience of mediated performance, and the liminal space between the physical and the digital. An assemblage of moving image sculptures comprises recordings of mediated dance performances and their material remnants, each of varying duration, generating a drifting, polyphonic present. An immersive sound composition, created using biosensing, generative body-sound technology, acts as a translation of bodily gesture into the moving image work. Visitors' own movement activates the installation as they move through it. Held in tension between archival, live, and mediated events, the work investigates the transformation of space through light, sound, and movement between the physical and the virtual.
